Things usually start somewhere

This is not the first step but the  first one online in a mail art project called (surprisingly) “Evolve Revolve” and intends to be a conversation in drawings that starts with people  I know, who draw and understand drawing as a serious activity. So there’s no need to go on about “what drawing is” right now but it’s something I’d love to have future conversations about.

If all goes well the first person will send it to someone they know who loves drawing and so on into the wider world. A bit like a chain letter but without all the malign nonsense and with a worthwhile outcome. And in a years time I hope I’ll get most of the folding sketchbooks I’ve made back. I expect, like beloved offspring, a couple will go astray but that’s the risk we have to take.

Meanwhile this blog will act as a record of participants’s drawings and comments and I’ll get on with finding somewhere to show the finished work because, much as I love the online world and spend more time than I need to  there, nothing beats the materiality of real drawings.

In a couple of days I’ll be sending out the folding sketchbooks. I don’t know how this will end up, big or small, a stupid disaster that’ll leave me feeling really foolish or a hell of a good time had by all.

When you get the envelope you’ll get this address so here’s a drawing to start off.Image
